One of the most internationally recognised names in advertising, Bartle Bogle Hegarty have offices all over the world and have an unrivalled reputation and client list.

They approached me initially to tackle and remedy a specific problem with respect to their existing Squarespace website and its ongoing management. However, the scope of work quickly expanded and I was more than happy to offer support with their requests.

The main issue BBH’s team were facing concerned the decentralised nature of their websites globally. The main BBH site had external links going to microsites for each of their offices around the globe. each site was run and managed individually which led to problems when it came to standardising any global updates. The main task here was to bring each office microsite into the agency’s main umbrella site without compromising SEO performance.

The additional tasks were smaller issues, but ones that needed addressing nonetheless. I added functionality to the ‘work’ page of the main site, allowing users to filter projects by the office that completed the work. I also fixed some bugs, added functionality to the existing nav bar, addressed a few mobile responsiveness issues and created some new page templates for use at a later point in time.

APPROACH

To bring each of the microsites under the main umbrella site I condensed all the existing content for each regional microsite and set these up under the already existing ‘offices’ dropdown menu. I also moved all of the projects from each office’s ‘work’ page to that on the main site (adding a filter to ensure ease of use). This provided users with much easier access to all projects globally whilst ensuring that each project retained its unique regional identity. It also made updating and maintaining the main site far more efficient and uniform. SEO performance was maintained for each regional microsite by maintaining separate re-directs for each microsite.

The bugs were fixed with some custom coding, whilst the nav bar was made fixed on scroll as requested by the client. Mobile responsiveness was fully optimised and tested (as with all parts of the project) before being deployed.

OUTCOME

All work was completed slightly ahead of schedule and the clients were more than happy with the results which gave them everything they had wanted from the project.
